Flaming Lips
Last night, something pretty crazy happened. I was at the Norva waiting for the Flaming Lips to play. I got a text from a friend that said "I'm here", so I walked towards the entrance. As I was walking and trying to text with a beer in my hand, I was approached by a guy with really long hair. He said, "You need me to hold that beer for you?" I kept walking because I thought he was just being weird. He said "Wait, what's your name?" and then shook my hand. He goes on to tell me that he's trying to get people on stage to dance during the show in costume. I didn't believe him because he didn't look legit. I even said "Mmm you smell like weed" real sarcastically. Anyway, he ended up convincing me that this was for real and I said I wanted to do it and I know that my friend would, too. He said he'd meet me back at that spot in 5 minutes with my friend. Well, she arrived and he took forever. I finally saw him walk by and I had to run after him to tell him I was still interested. He only had one pass left. I took it.
I went to the spot where we were supposed to meet with our backstage passes, and there were 8 of us. When we went backstage, we immediately saw Wayne and he was so normal and friendly. We were shown our costumes (we all dressed as Dorothy), and I was a little nervous we were gonna look more like Brett Micheals groupies because of how tiny they were. Thank god I had shorts on.
It was pretty damn cool to get to see behind the scenes of this famously wild show. The best part was when Wayne singled me out and came up to me during a song and gave me a huge hug. After we danced for the 1hr 15 min show, we went backstage--- got free shirts, autographs, and as much time as we wanted to get pictures with Wayne. He was so insanely nice, and he even took a picture on his new iPhone 4 and texted it to me later! Which means, I have his phone number. Haha
This is the opening to the show (I found it on youtube). We come on stage around minute 5 of this video. None of us really knew what to do, we were so shocked to be in the position we were in. I hope I didn't look like a nerd.
He was signing the shirt he gave me here. It said, "Hey Sarah! Peace Wayne" with a drawing of a sun. Hah!

FALL
Time to start watching my favorite classic Halloween movies, drink pumpkin ale, take advantage of the perfect running weather, and use nutmeg/rosemary/sweet potatoes any chance I get.
Skip past the first minute to get to the song- There's no way it took more than 5 minutes to write the lyrics.
On a side note, 6 months and 27 days until I'm a speech pathologist.

Let's Go Crazy
Me and my 15-month old nephew's favorite song to dance to at the moment. Something he should be proud of when he gets older.

Fluke
Its so strange that I was obsessed with this band for a good 3 years (2003-2006) and then totally forgot about them until looking through my old CD collection. As soon as I saw my Mates of State CDs, I put them in the player and somehow still knew every word. Felt like I was 17-20 again. Kinda gross.
Though "When it lasted all day, we would blast it all day, we would bring it on and on" is still one of my favorite lines in a song to sing at the top of my lungs (in "Goods").

Kirsten Dunst and Bloomberg
Adam and I saw Kirsten Dunst at the Apple store in NYC on Tuesday. We also walked by Mayor Bloomberg on Monday, and Adam gave me a hard time for not saying hello. I honestly didn't realize it was him. We made eye contact and were so close we could have brushed shoulders. That sounds about right for something I'd do. Oh well.
Here are some other shots from our fun weekend in New York.

Local Natives
NPR hosts these things called Tiny Desk Concerts. I've heard of the "Local Natives" before, but never really listened to their music until last night on their Tiny Desk Concert.
Here is the non-acoustic version of one of the songs they did on NPR.

One More Time
Damn! One of the rappers in my favorite guilty pleasure song died the other day. Probably shouldn't listen to my other guilty pleasure "Whip My Hair" anymore so nothing happens to that little girl.

Wineries and Bed & Breakfasts
Adam and I went on a spur of the moment trip to Charlottesville, VA a few days ago. We stayed at two beautiful bed and breakfasts (the Inn at Monticello and the Dinsmore House). Between that we went to 7 different wineries, ate at some awesome places like Mellow Mushroom and Lemon Grass, walked historic trails, collected 8 new bottles of wine, and discovered a new favorite beer called Starr Hill Monticello. It was the perfect way to spend my week off before grad classes start and I get assigned my summer clients. I'm so looking forward to doing a trip like this again somewhere else. I didn't think I'd love bed and breakfasts so much, but I don't see myself ever wanting to stay at a regular hotel after this relaxing and fulfilling experience.

The Funeral has been my favorite album since 2004. And this is my new favorite running song for spring since...15 minutes ago. It was perfect for today.

Here and There
ModCloth
14 months left of grad school means 14 months left until I'll be rolling in money and able to afford as much as I want from this store. I can' wait.

Until then, I'll just attempt to collect pieces like this here and there.

Teach Me How to Dylan: Part 2
A few months ago, I posted a link to my (then) 6 month old nephew's blog. He's now 10 months old and WALKING. (video)
Most other kids his age are just now crawling or holding onto things to stand up. I can't believe how fast he's growing up, and he's not even my kid.

Impressive
So my friend, Anna, will be getting married in 2 months. She's been blogging the steps to preparing her wedding, and I can't believe how creative and resourceful she has been. Seeing what she's put together has encouraged me to try to be more crafty, and I can't wait to see the beautiful items she's blogged about come May.
Here are a few photos of the look and feel she's going for.

Check out what she's done to achieve this look. It is SO Impressive.

My Photography Post
My friend, Melissa, has a very talented photographer husband. He's been in National Geographic and worked as a freelance photographer for clients such as Newsweek, Mother Jones, TIME, The FADER, Smithsonian, More, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Businessweek, US News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Apple, The Canadian Opera Company and others. He is constantly traveling around the world to take some of the best pictures I've seen.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that I made it into one of the photos on the LUCEO site. Check it Out.
Watch out for this guy and look at Matt Eich's Official Site.

Sleep the Clock Around
This was the first Belle and Sebastian song I heard in 2001 when I was 14 or 15. I am starting to think I had better taste in music when I was younger. Maybe not better taste, but better resources to finding great bands. Not sure how that works considering iTunes and whatnot. But back before the Internet was as crazy as it is now, bands felt more like your own.
I have a problem with questioning everything I hear, wondering if its actually good or if I'm tricked into thinking its good because someone told me so. Well one thing I know is that THIS is good, and I'm going to go with what I'm into instead of what I think I should to be into (though, Belle and Sebastian is one of those bands everybody can't help but to love).

Navy Beans
(Couldn't find the original with better quality)
Lets pretend he never did 'Click', 'Grown-ups' or 'Just Go With It', and remember him like this.
(Look for Kevin Nealon as the Sloppy Joe, Sarah Silverman as the Chinese food, and Norm McDonald as the string bean)

Angus
Man, Angus was such a good movie...and I thought (from what I remembered) the soundtrack was awesome, too. So I looked it up and it wasn't as good as I thought. Darn. BUT I found a song on it that I haven't heard in awhile.
I wish they still made movies like Angus and bands like (the old) Weezer. I feel like I can compare Weezer to actors like Adam Sandler and Mike Myers. They were the best part of the 90's, but now they're trying to keep up with what the new generation considers cool/funny. They just need to go back to what were good at.

In the Middle of It
Ok, so I'm in the process of testing new music. I'm looking up bands I already like, and there are links that claim if I like so and so then I'll also be into so and so. They don't seem to know what they're talking about yet.
So far they've been bands from New York who make super corny dance music that all sound the same. But at least now I know to never listen to The xx. Just awful.

So What
"Its only embarrassing if you care what people think."
This and Dougie have been my guilty pleasure songs for a few months now. Maybe I just need to find more music that tells me what dance move I need to do to it. Only kidding.
When I look back I don't want I Whip my Hair and Teach me How to Dougie to be my soundtrack for this year. They've just been used to preoccupy my time while I search for music that doesn't make me feel embarrassed for knowing the words. So What!

Music Search
I'm trying to find new music to get into, but I keep falling back on stuff I already know. The good new stuff has been getting over-played, so I'm tired of it before I download it. Shoot....
Maybe I'll just stay faithful to the bands I know are good instead of getting hyped over a fun single by groups like Passion Pit. Its only been a little over a year since I heard of them and I already think their music is simple and silly.

18
When I was 18, I would drive around imagining myself as the singer of this. I need to find music that'll do that to me again. The search is on!

New Plan
I'm not so sure I'm into blogging. Every time I write something, the next day I look at it and cringe. Most people who have blogs have themes, but I don't have an idea for a theme yet. I don't want to use this as an emotional outlet which may later embarrass me or be used against me, I already did that in high school. Here's embarrassing proof of it. (click here if you want to get to know the 15-18 year old me)
Maybe my theme should be my search for a hobby and potential activities I might be able to get good at. I kind of forgot what those are ever since grad school took over.
For now, I'll just post videos and links that I think are cool or funny. Maybe I'll find new things to be interested in through that.
